Abstract: Who can resist the opportunity to help students master any or all of the following skills: Civic Engagement, Creative Thinking, Critical Thinking, Ethical Reasoning, Global Learning, Information Literacy, Inquiry and Analysis, Intercultural Knowledge and Competence, Oral Communication, Problem Solving, Quantitative Literacy, Teamwork, and Written Communication? From 2007 to 2009, AAC&U generated a project to create VALUE (Valid Assessment of Learning in Undergraduate Education) rubrics for these and other skills. The rubrics and related resources have been widely adopted, and they can be customized for the needs of students, faculty and institutions. This project continues to support learning, and more resources are available every day. This presentation is VALUE-able for any educator whether they are new to VALUE rubrics or they are already using them in some way. The facilitator will introduce participants to key resources and practical examples that enable them to apply the VALUE rubric approach without reinventing the wheel. The information in this presentation is not only about rubrics and assessment. The discussion will include how educators can creatively use these free rubrics and materials in a multitude of ways. After participating in the presentation, attendees will be able to access rubrics and example assignments and create a strategy for how to implement them to best support specific needs that align with their goals for their students.
