Designing Problem-Based Learning Activities in Mathematics to Develop Gaming Instructional Materials based on the New Backward Design Method
Abstract: This paper exemplifies how the learning outcomes of several subjects are required when making policy evaluations during the comprehensive study time based on the new backward design method. We discuss, in detail, how to utilize the learning outcomes of mathematics, focusing on the fact that it is compulsory or studied by many students in Japanese high schools. In the unit to learn these contents, and as a sub-task to prepare for the Period for Integrated Studies, we design an activity that assumes the kind of theme to be used for inquiry activities and enhances policy evaluation ability as the grade progresses. In addition, the design of the gaming instructional material will be examined in correspondence with the assumed learning activity.
