Abstract: Despite the time and resources spent on establishing the learning analytics infrastructure, its application is often limited to reporting basic data about learner performance such as completion rate. Another widespread issue is the misuse of participation and engagement data for measuring learning outcomes. In this workshop, we will dissect commonly used metrics and evaluate if their adoption makes practical sense within your organization. We will specifically focus on two categories of questions that can further strengthen user learning experiences. (1) What information can help us to provide personalized support to learners post-training? (2) What information can help the training team to improve their learning offerings?

Objectives

1) Engage participants in a discussion on how data is used in their organization and to what extent the collected information helps to reach the articulated goals. 2) Inspect the list of questions that we hope to answer with data and discuss the practical outcomes of answering them. 3) Identify metrics that address the refined list of questions. 4) Create an action plan for improving the data collection and analysis practices.
