Abstract: It is evident that technology is developing at a vast pace. Consequently, the everyday lives of individuals are influenced, not just in what they do and how they do it, but more specifically in how they learn. There are a number of different types of technology, specifically in the commerce fields, that can be seamlessly integrated in Higher Education teaching and learning. Considering the landscape of the 4th Industrial Revolution, it is imperative for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to deliver graduates who have the ability to function in and contribute to the success of the commerce sphere. , through demonstrating innovative technological skills. Open education resources (OERs) have the potential to contribute to the development of 21st century skills of the students in the commerce fields and simultaneously transform the Higher Education landscape. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of how OERs are implemented in commerce education at a South African HEI in order to effectively deal with challenges experienced in the specific context.
