Abstract: This paper reports on the design and implementation of a blended learning course for adult educators on the topic of Open Educational Resources (OER). It describes (a) the idea and instructional design of a blended learning experience, (b) the application and integration of two online services still in development at the time to provide the learning materials and to connect the individual learners, and (c) reflects on the experiences made in the course of the implementation. While user engagement in the opening webinar and the subsequent online phase were rather high, drop-out rates increased considerably between the end of the online phase and the concluding workshop. The insights gained from the case stress the importance of continuous proactive learner support and highlight the detrimental effect of between-system gaps when using different software applications in a blended learning setting.
