Practice to Think Critically in an age of Digital Native : "Fake News" Reading for Media Literacy

Abstract: Nowadays, computing environment constantly connected to the Internet are rapidly developing and are becoming an important part of not only our life but also many educational environments. Besides, we undoubtedly should worry about students unsuspectingly sharing misinformation as well as systematic campaigns to spread disinformation. A lot of students are apprised of the reality of being deceived, although many students recognize the term “fake news” as an unmistakable misinformation or disinformation. Here we revisit an overview of research background in the case of Japanese university students to explain the necessities with present critical thinking practice focusing on student’s attitude with newspaper reading performance. This paper reported the result of practice to think critically, which utilized “fake news” materials in classroom.
