Abstract: At the 2017 Ed Media conference, we presented preliminary findings about discussion participation by students in either a blended or fully online section of the same course. The content analyses findings indicated some differences in number of posted messages and the embedded statements within messages. Encouraged by the findings, we continued with phase two of the study, the content analyses of other asynchronous discussions for each course section. In addition to frequencies and types of embedded statements in the posted messages, further comparisons were made by averaging the number of embedded statements by participants. This paper will present those additional findings and draw some tentative claims about blended learning.
