Abstract: This interactive session will demonstrate some of the newest features of Google Drive, Prezi, and Webspiration that will include a variety of strategies utilizing the collaborative features of these Web 2.0 sites. The strategies shared will be applicable to K-12 teachers and college faculty who are looking to increase their technology integration skills. Educators teaching online who are looking for some fresh ideas and ways to increase engagement and collaboration will benefit also. Additionally, participants will be shown the benefits of could computing via these Cloud based resources as well as be shown ways to enhance learning in the classroom through Google, Prezi, and Webspiration’s collaborative features. Finally, participants will work together in small groups to synchronously create a presentation or product utilizing one of these sources, which will allow them to learn a new program of their choice

Objectives

Objectives: 1. To educate participants about the benefits of online collaboration among their students for both campus based and online classrooms. 2. To inspire participants to develop creative and collaborative assessments using the many features of Google, Prezi, and Webspiration. 3. To demonstrate how to use several of the features so participants feel confident in utilizing the tools in their own classrooms. 4. To demonstrate the benefits of teaching and learning through cloud computing. 5. Success will be measured by the completion of the interactive presentation we will be making together.

Topical Outline

5 min: Introduction and distribute the handouts. Pass around my iPad and have participants enter their email in a Google Doc while showing on the main screen the synchronous communication between the two devices. Then, I will copy their email addresses and share my presentation with each of them through Google Drive. 10 min: Discussion of participants’ knowledge about cloud computing. Open Google Drive and question participants about their comfort level with Google Drive’s feature. I will follow my presentation slides to model the following: - Model transferring a Word doc into a Google Doc. Model the “share” feature. - Invite a volunteer to join the document with me to complete it together, simultaneously. - Repeat a second time, but use Presentations. Invite a third member to join. As I am explaining, I will give the 2 volunteers a short task of creating two slides each in the presentation. 10 min: Explain and model the online collaborative features of Prezi. - Show how to add participants to online presentations. I will send a link to a sample presentation. Participants will be shown how to add collaborators. - 3 volunteers will be selected to work on the Prezi simultaneously. They will be given a couple of tasks to include in their presentation. 15 min: Explain and model the online collaborative features of Webspiration. - Demonstrate some of the unique features of Webspiration that are designed for educators (template library) - Show how assignments can be created and completed online. Finished assignments can be submitted to the instructor for assessment, without leaving the program. - Select a graphic organizer/concept map to complete. Invite 2-3 volunteers to join the document. They also will be given a couple of tasks to include in their project. 10 min: Conclusion - View completed presentations and projects that the participants created. - Discuss ways I use these programs in traditional and online classrooms for synchronous and asynchronous learning activities. I will share a few assignments that I have had my students complete. - Invite questions.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites: Participants should have a working knowledge of Google and a Google account already established. It is preferred that participants understand how to use Prezi. Additionally, it is recommended that participants be in the field of education or have some knowledge about active teaching and learning strategies.
