Abstract: Collaborative learning in a personalized context is an interesting research target. In this paper, we investigate through an experimental study how collaborative activities may be combined with personalized learning. INSPIRE is an adaptive educational hypermedia system of the ‘00s that offers personalized support to individuals. In the experimental study, Informatics and Telecommunications students at the University of Athens initially work with INSPIRE studying specific topics and then they collaborate with peers to solve relevant problems. Factors affecting the individual performance of the group members and the interaction among them are investigated, like individual study of personalized content, collaborative activities structure including group formation criteria and assignment of different roles.
